Our Veterinarians

Dr. James C. Shea III
Dr. James Shea comes from a small mountain town in Northeastern Pennsylvania, where he grew up rescuing and caring for all types of animals. Dr. Shea graduated from Indiana University of Pennsylvania with his Bachelor’s in pre-veterinary medicine and a minor in chemistry in 2013. He continued to Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine, where he received his Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine, graduating in 2019. Dr. Shea also completed his clinic year at Colorado State University's Veterinary Teaching Hospital. Dr. Shea has been practicing small animal medicine for 6 years.

Dr. Shea is certified in veterinary acupuncture from the Chi Institute and is currently working on his herbal medicine certification. Dr. Shea strongly believes that treating patients effectively is not solely achieved by using medicine alone, but instead understanding individual behavior and applying integrative medicine as an adjunctive treatment when necessary. He also has a strong interest in the specialties of Internal Medicine, Ophthalmology, and Dermatology.

In his spare time, he enjoys the outdoors, blues/bluegrass music, horticulture, cooking, and hiking with his 3-legged dog, Caylee and her brother Alfie. He also has three cats- Whiskey, Sampson, and Estrella.

Dr. Shea joined our family in January of 2025.

Carolina

From a young age, animals of all shapes and sizes have captivated Carolina. Whether they flew or had paws (she's owned both and anything in between), her care and love remained constant. Combining this lifelong passion with her knack for customer service, she found her place in the veterinary world. Carolina is dedicated to making sure both you and your furry friends feel safe and cared for. When she's not busy handling appointments and answering questions, you can find her indulging in photography, traveling, or splashing around in the St. Vrain Creek with her pup, Ozzy. She's excited to deepen her connection with the field and continue serving our community.

JeNay

JeNay was born in Florida and spent much of her early childhood on a farm, where her love for animals first began. Growing up surrounded by animals gave her a deep appreciation for their care and well-being, which has only grown stronger over the years. After moving to Colorado, JeNay fell in love with the community and is proud to call it home.
She recently completed her Veterinary Assistant program at Front Range Community College and plans to continue her education in the veterinary field. Her training has given her hands-on experience in patient care, surgical support, and animal handling, and she is excited to keep building on those skills to better serve pets and their families.
Outside of the clinic, JeNay enjoys spending time with friends and family, as well as exploring fun crafts and creative projects. Whether at work or in her free time, she brings the same passion and dedication to everything she does.
JeNay truly believes every pet deserves to be treated like family, and she is honored to help create a welcoming, supportive environment for both pets and their people.

ryan

Ryan is a Biology student at Colorado State University with a focus in BioMedicine, and is working towards a degree in Veterinary Medicine. Finding a passion for animals at a young age, she was a Junior Dog Handler for The AKC in childhood and worked with a range of dog breeds and showed livestock for her local school’s FFA Club as well. She finds joy in being a voice for animals, advocating for them, and helping care for them no matter the circumstances.

She is from Washington State but has lived all around North America.  In her free time, Ryan enjoys writing, having been published at the age of 18, and is an avid baker, often bringing treats to her friends and coworkers. She has a rescue German Shepherd x Chow Chow named Kahnaki, along with a forest-full of house plants.

CAMPBELL
A Colorado native, Campbell has always had a deep love for animals. She grew up having dogs and riding horses. Before joining our team, she worked as a supervisor at a dog daycare, where she gained valuable hands-on experience caring for dogs of all breeds and personalities. At home, she shares her life with Dave, her rescue cattle dog mix, and Melvin the cat. When she’s not at the clinic, you can find her cooking, listening to music, or taking Dave (and often Melvin!) on hikes. Campbell has always been a devoted advocate for the animals in her life. Her committed, enthusiastic nature shines through at the clinic. She’s proud to play a part in giving every patient the best care possible.

Caylee & Alfie

Caylee is a spirited "coconut terrier" born on the island of St. Kitts. After a serious injury cost her a back leg (we like to say she fell from heaven), she was lovingly taken in by vet students- and ultimately became a "foster fail" to Dr. Shea. For the past eight years, she's been his loyal sidekick. True to her happy go-lucky nature, Caylee often greets visitors by bouncing on her back leg like a pogo stick, full of joy and enthusiasm.

Alfie was born in a small town in Nebraska with a unique twist to his story. His litter was originally meant to be purebred livestock guardians—but a friendly neighbor dog had other plans. The result? Alfie: half Maremma Sheepdog, half Catahoula Leopard Dog, and 100% gentle giant. These days, Alfie has traded farm life for a new role as LVC’s official greeter. He’s a pro at making friends—starting with a quiet hello and finishing with a full-body lean once the petting begins. Calm, sweet, and endlessly lovable, Alfie makes sure everyone who visits feels right at home.
