What is comfort care?
Comfort care aims to meet the needs of pets faced with aging or chronic health issues. Pets can sometimes benefit from assistance in an environment other than the veterinary clinic. Comfort care is provided at the Comfort Center at Lyons Veterinary Clinic or in your home.
Pets who benefit from this type of care are those facing chronic health issues such as osteoarthritis (arthritis), internal organ disease, neurological disease, cancer.

What are the benefits of comfort care?
- Family and patient are seen in the comfort of their home or Comfort Care Center.
- Reduction in stress/pain involved in travel if seen in the home.
- Together with the team and your referring veterinarian we create a medical and comfort care plan for your pet.
where do we start?
Start with an initial consultation with our veterinarian. This consultation takes 60-90 minutes either at the Comfort Care Center at Lyons Veterinary Clinic or in your home.
initial consult & what to expect
You will meet with the consulting veterinarian to discuss:
- Review historical medical data and records from family and referring veterinarian.
- Complete home-life history, goals of care, caretaker skills and assistance that may be needed.
- Comprehensive physical exam.
- Medical assessment, including a quality of life assessment and pain assessment.
- Plan of care: including treatments and prescriptions, household modifications, plan for follow ups.
